Springfield is the third most populous city in Massachusetts. It is located on the Connecticut River, close to the Connecticut border, and just about at the crossroads of the I-90 (The Mass Pike) and Interstate 91. It's an easy drive from Hartford, Brattleboro, Albany, and Boston. Springfield and the surrounding area is known as the Pioneer Valley, which is the most populated area in Western Massachusetts. Springfield is a mid-sized city and has its share of urban problems. It is home to MGM Springfield resort casino, the Basketball Hall Of Fame, several museums, a convention center, two performing arts theaters, Springfield Falcons Hockey, 5 colleges, a large Christmas lights show, a popular 4th of July fireworks show, the annual world's biggest pancake breakfast, a small zoo, a mall, many bars and restaurants, and at least a couple nice hotels.
